IDF
The Israel Defense Forces, also known as the IDF, is the army of the State of Israel, established in 1948 alongside the Jewish state. It is the central defense force of the State of Israel, and consists of three branches: air, sea, and land. Service in the army is mandatory for Israelis, and it is considered one of the strongest armies in the Middle East. The army is headed by the Chief of Staff. Today it is led by the 23rd Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Herzi Halevi.
