Lapid urges Turkey to shut down Hamas after Jerusalem attack
Lapid’s remarks arrive amid news of the arrests of over 50 Hamas members

Israel’s Foreign Minister Yair Lapid called on Turkey Monday to address the Hamas network operating within the country’s borders.
“Hamas’ offices in Istanbul will be shut down,” the official declared, according to The Times of Israel.
“We must prevent these heinous acts of terrorism against Israeli citizens everywhere and under any conditions,” he explained.
Lapid urged states to follow the recent example set by the United Kingdom regarding efforts to classify Hamas’ political arm as a terrorist organization.
“The countries of the world must act like Britain and outlaw Hamas,” the minister instructed.
Lapid’s remarks arrive one day after a fatal shooting in the Old City of Jerusalem, where a gunman linked to Hamas fired on several people, killing 26-year-old Israeli Eliyahu Kay and wounding four others.
The shooter, a Palestinian man identified as Fadi Abu Shkhaydam, visited Turkey several times before the attack, according to Israel’s Kan broadcaster.

Security sources cited in the report allege the gunman received instructions for the shooting there, from Hamas militants located in the country, though members of Shkhaydam’s family dispute this.
On Monday, Israel’s Shin Bet security services announced the arrests of over 50 Hamas members in the West Bank and Jerusalem from a cell being led by Saleh al-Arouri, a top faction official who resides in Turkey.
