US official says Iran talks ‘positive and constructive,’ but Washington ‘not in a rush’
A US official told CBS that the Trump administration was having “positive and constructive discussions through the mediators,” as Al Arabiya reported exchanges between Washington and Tehran on reopening the Strait of Hormuz and easing sanctions.
A high-ranking source told Al Arabiya that efforts were underway to secure guarantees between the two sides. CBS reported that Iran had proposed a seven-day plan to reopen the strait.
“The United States is in a very strong position with control of the Strait of Hormuz, so we are not in a rush,” the US official told CBS, adding that nearly 40 million barrels of oil had transited the waterway over the previous 48 hours.

According to an initial investigation, troops from the 7007th Battalion launched two explosive drones from a post in northern Gaza on Thursday. The first reached its target, but the second turned back and crashed inside the post for reasons still under investigation. It exploded when Master Sgt. (Res.) Nadav Kali, 24, and Master Sgt. (Res.) Ofek Moalem, 23, picked it up. Both were critically wounded and later pronounced dead at a hospital.
Iran proposes seven-day plan to reopen Strait of Hormuz- report
Tehran presented the Trump administration with a new plan this week on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, according to a report by the Financial Times. “We have introduced a plan to the United States through the mediators that if certain conditions are met . . . the strait will be open in seven days," Iranian foreign minister Abbas Araghchi said.
