Joe Biden to meet with Democrat governors after poor debate performance
Kamala Harris, Biden's vice president whose name has been floated as a possible replacement, will also attend the meeting, reports suggested
US President Joe Biden is planning a meeting with Democratic governors, according to reports on Tuesday, following his poor performance last week against former president Donald Trump.
Some will attend in person and others will join in remotely on Wednesday, US media reported. According to Jake Tapper, a journalist who was one of the mediators in last Thursday's debate, said that Biden already spoke to several governors personally on Monday.
This comes as Democrats have expressed worries that Biden is no longer fit to serve as president, although many leaders have spoken publicly to reaffirm their support for the incumbent president.
Congressman Lloyd Doggett from Texas was the first to do so publicly on Tuesday.
Vice President Kamala Harris, whose name has been floated as a natural replacement to Biden who will continue the presidential race, may also attend the meeting with the governors, reports said. Despite this, Biden is expected to reassure state leaders of his ability to continue.
Biden has said that he would not give up the race, vowing to continue fighting.
Trump said Biden was "grossly incompetent" after the debate, in which the president mumbled and appeared feeble.
